Frome's first dedicated wine bar is open! Woo!
Stony Street House is no longer a concept, a building site or a curiosity. It is now a beautiful wine bar, wine shop & restaurant sitting at the end of St Catherine’s Hill - one of the most picturesque streets in Frome. Proudly nestled amongst the other independent businesses and after months of speculation, we of course wanted to start with a bang..and so we did!
Last Friday 15 Feb we hosted a little housewarming that nearly blew the roof off. On the Saturday we opened for glorious business and all week it has been half term. So it was a full on first week of service; you could even call it a baptism of fire…
Our wood fired pizza oven has certainly been firing out our homemade sourdough pizzas to a rapturous response. Thanks to Head Chef Jamie Tubb who has created a wonderfully simple, yet exciting menu of pizzas, small plates and seriously indulgent desserts. You can hear more from Jamie in an upcoming blog - like how he got hold of a 300 year old sourdough starter and where he learnt to toss pizzas so well.
Apart from satisfying the hunger of the great and the good of Frome we have also been quenching their thirst.
Before Stony Street House (BSSH), there was no dedicated wine bar or wine shop in Frome and so the excitement before we opened was palpable. Luckily, we have over 350 wines from regions all around the world and a Sommelier who knows her stuff.
Head of Wine, Sarah Helliwell, along with our founder and lifelong devotee to wine, Kent Barker, have gone the extra mile to source wines which are unusual, yet accessible. For example, you won’t find your standard Malbec or Prosecco at Stony Street House. Instead we have a Sparkling Blanquette from Limoux and a South African Pinot Noir on Tap - much more interesting alternatives!
We’ll hear more from Sarah and her journey in wine in an upcoming blog as well as from Kent - the man behind the most exciting new establishment in Frome!
The hard work and dedication from the core team to get our doors open last Saturday (special shoutout to Olivia Taylor our Head of Operations!) meant we had to have a little celebration. But should we have done it the night before?
Of course we should! It was the only way and we wouldn’t have changed it for the world. To see Stony Street House full of our nearest and dearest after months of working around the clock was pure bliss.
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us and for those who missed it don’t worry...
The Housewarming is over, but there’ll be plenty more house parties to come! In fact, last night was pretty rocking...head over to our Instagram to get sneak peeks of all the fun & games.
Here’s to a healthy, happy & prosperous year! And remember, a house is not a home without good food, great wine & excellent company.
